General Medical PracticeGeneral practice provides person centred, continuing, comprehensive and coordinated whole person health care to individuals and families in their communities. General practice is a relationship based specialist medical discipline. General practice, its practice teams and their primary health care relationships comprise the foundations of an effective health care system for all those in need.

Women's HealthConsultations may cover family planning, contraceptive advice, pregnancy care, fertility advice, health screening including pap smears, breast examinations & sexual health screening. We also do antenatal shared care with RHWR and RPA. It is recommended that all women aged 18 and over attend their GP every 2 years for a Women’s Health Check. Please ensure you advise our friendly receptionist if you require a pap smear or have several medical conditions to discuss with the doctor so we may allow for a longer consultation.

Men's HealthMen have specific health issues which can vary with different stages of life. Consultations are conducted in a confidential and private consulting room and may cover health screening, prostate checks, blood screening, blood pressure checks and sexual health checks. Our doctors conduct preventative health checks and provide education to suit each patient's individual needs.

Travel VaccinationsWhile many infectious diseases have been controlled in Australia due to widespread vaccination and other public health measures, this is not the case in many overseas countries. Travelling can expose us to these diseases and other diseases that do not occur in Australia. You need to visit your doctor at least 6 weeks before you depart Australia to ensure effective immunisation to protect from infections whilst travelling. Some countries may require you to be vaccinated against certain diseases; if you do not have the required vaccinations, you may be refused entry or required to have the necessary vaccination(s) at the border. So talk to your doctor about any vaccines or boosters you may need to have before you travel. We are a Yellow Fever Accredited practice.

Children's HealthFountain Medical Practice Potts Point actively encourages immunisations. Routine childhood and most Adult immunisations are held and available within the practice for patients daily. Children’s vaccinations are updated on the ACIR weekly. Please bring your child’s “Blue Book” to their vaccination appointment. Children will be given regular health checks to ensure that they are progressing nicely. Most immunisations are administered by one of our Practice Nurses.

Mental HealthIf you are worried about your mental health your GP should be able to help you. Some people may feel uncomfortable approaching the subject of mental illness even with a doctor, it may help to remember that your visit is private, confidential and the doctor will not be surprised by what you have to say. At least one in five people experience a mental disorder at some point in their lifetime. It may help to write a list of concerns and symptoms in advance and take it to the appointment.All or our doctors at Fountain Medical have received training in mental illness and are able to provide a mental health care plan or refer as needed to a Psychiatrist

Chronic HealthA chronic condition is one that is persistent or long-lasting in its effects or a disease that progresses with time. The term chronic is often applied when the course of the disease lasts for more than three months. Chronic diseases can result from complex causes, which can include a number of different health risk factors. They are a leading cause of disability, and have major impacts on health and welfare services. Examples may include asthma, diabetes and musculo skeletal conditions.

Extra Fees:

Our medical staff and visiting consultants may perform procedures which incur extra charges for example, removal of lesions, pregnancy testing, and contraception implants etc.

Reception staff will inform you of any extra services in advance on request.

Fees for standard consultation are listed above. For more information on mental health care plans, biopsies or excisions, EPC plans or other matters, please discuss with reception at time of booking.

Medicare rebates are not available for insurance health assessments or other non essential medical treatment.

All consultation fees need to be settled at the time of appointment.

Fees settled by third party providers such as HotDoc will incurr an automatic fee from that provider. Please call the practice to settle your account immediatley after your appointment if you wish to avoid additional fees.

Workcover:

Contact your employer/employers insurance company for a claim number prior to scheduling an appointment. All appointments must be paid for at the time of consultation.

Additional Information

Rebates:

If eligible for a Medicare rebate, please bring an eftpos card with a cheque or savings account. We are able to process your Medicare rebate here with the use of Medicare easy claims and our eftpos machine. This saves you claiming at the Medicare office.

Reciprocal Medicare Cards:

“The Australian Government has signed Reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA) with the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Norway, Slovenia, Malta and Italy. These agreements entitle you to some subsidised health services for essential medical treatment while visiting Australia.”(https://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/health-care-visitors-australia) If you wish to claim a medicare rebate, you will need your medicare card prior to your appointment. Medicare will not provide a rebate without a medicare card.

Pathology:

All pathology like blood or urine tests are sent to an accredited pathology laboratory. This is an external service provider. Medicare may cover some of your pathology costs, otherwise you will be sent an invoice from DHM.
